Born and raised in South Africa...
Faith47 is a self-taught artist still based in South Africa. She has received recognition for her work beyond her home country and has participated in gallery shows and projects world-wide. Faith47’s work can be found in many locations in South Africa and various other international cities around the world. The style and the energy of her work is clearly recognizable, and is incorporated into the texture of the urban environment.
Her early work was inspired primarily by the social reality with which she is faced in her work on the streets of South Africa. She was interested in juxtaposing the vast difference between the promises of a better life brought in with the “New South Africa” post-Apartheid and the harsh reality of the lives of most South Africans. Her Freedom Charter project, which featured phrases from the iconic freedom charter document on inner city streets, is a good example of this. Other issues dealt with in this period revolve around various social facing the country.
Faith47 has participated in the Wynwood Walls Art Basel program for three years in a row. In 2012, she painted a mural for the Wynwood Doors, in 2013 she was included in the Women on the Walls program and most recently in 2014 she collaborated with artist Alexis Diaz as part of the Art of Collaboration program that year.
