Ernest Zacharevic [ SINGAPORE ]all artists
Born in Lithuania but…
living in Singapore, Ernest Zacharevic’s art is found both in the street and in galleries. Known mostly as a street artist, his recognition grew after creating a series of murals in Malaysia featuring scenes depicting everyday Malaysian life using the local people as models for the murals. His work most often features a 3D element as the painted subjects are often interacting with actual objects such as siblings taking a ride on an actual bike or monkeys sitting in an actual wheelbarrow.
His mural in the Wynwood Doors is part of a bigger collaboration called ReplayNYC, where Zacharevic recreates photos from the 1970s of neighborhood kids at play taken by famed photographer Martha Cooper. In the photo inspiration for the mural, the kids are building a clubhouse with wood scraps; in his version they are building Picasso’s 1958 sculpture “Bull”.
